| April 26, 2004 Dear Sir/Madam We reside in the sunny island of Trinidad, in the Caribbean. We are a family of five – husband, wife, one son and two daughters. Our children are all under five. We are writing this letter because we have tried almost everything else and at this time we are in a desperate situation. We have been married for the past five years (5) and have three wonderful children – one boy and two girls. However over the years we have been trying to acquire a home of our own without any success. My wife has made about three applications to the Housing Ministry and never has been called for an interview or informed that there are no homes available. We are in dire need of a home of our own and so are seeking your assistance. We are asking for a donation of fifty thousand dollars ($50 000), which will greatly facilitate us in acquiring our own home. Presently, our son attends pre-school where we are paying a school fee of five hundred and fifty ($550) dollars a term. Soon he will be staring Primary school, and as we believe in Christian Education, it will be a tuition-based school. Our first daughter, who is our second child, will be starting the pre-school our son currently attends. So that means that there are going to be additional fees. If however, we are able to purchase our own home, it will free up monies spent on rental of home to be channeled into educating our children. We are not trying to scam you out of your hard-earned cash as we do indeed value the sacrifice that hard work entails. My wife works as a primary school teacher, and she is presently undergoing training, while I am in the Construction field, working as a mason. So we do indeed understand what it means to work hard. Additionally, we are just barely making ends meet and so we will truly appreciate any assistance you can give us. We believe in the biblical adage, “ask, and it shall be given unto you,” and as such we firmly believe that when an individual is blessed with wealth, that it belongs to the Lord. Since, we are suppose to be our brother’s keeper, then we are appealing to you to help alleviate our plight. I am sure you have a family of your own, and will not like to see them homeless or hungry. I know that sometimes in your daily routines you may come across homeless persons and your heart goes out to them. We are just asking that you help prevent us from reaching that state. It is not difficult to arrive at that state, as very often, we are not too sure where our next rent payment will come from, or whether we can buy milk or pampers for our children. It is really difficult trying to make ends meet, and it only by the grace of God that we are still able to provide for our children. We are getting by on bare necessities, and after paying rent, light bill, telephone bill, school fees and transportation, there is not even enough left over for savings or emergencies. Please help us! Thank you very kindly for taking the time to consider our request and may God continue to richly bless you. Sincerely yours, Alicia & Kennedy Lawrence
